Dreadlocks
Dreadlocks are a time consuming project. They can take up to a year to form naturally, and that's with alot of help. The hair should be at least 6 inches long but will shrink once the process begins.
You don't need to go unwashed for a long period of time.
There is a process that can help them form a bit more quickly. It's called a dread perm.
These are great for someone who is serious about having dreads right now.
How is it done? Here's a step by step example...
After sectioning and teasing the hair, I wrap string around each dread. I then apply perm solution. It processes and neutralizes.
After this process the string is removed but the band around the base is left to ensure neatness as they grow. (They can be removed after a few months.)

At this time a heavy wax will be applied by rolling it on to the hair to keep the dreads in a more controlled state.
This whole process could take up to 5 hours, depending on the length of your hair. And could cost anywhere from $300 to $600 to initially have done.
Having a dread perm quickens the process of dreads forming by locking in the teasing and forming the shape of the dread.
There is still a bit of maintenance needed to having them form neatly as they grow.
You might need to come in once a month for the first few for me to help separate and thoroughly twist and wax each section. Unless someone at home could help you.
You can even wash your hair after this process but really about once every 1 to 2 weeks.
Better than not at all.
The price to have dreads formed without a dread perm could cost between $200 to $400.
Synthetic Dreds
These are another form of instant dreds. The application for these is braiding them in.
I premake the dreds before the appointment. They can be made any color or length.
This model has platnum, black and purple.
An average cost for these would be about $600 and would take up to 4 hours to
have done.
